The Manhattan Collection
There was a time when it was said all roads led to Rome. Now, some might say that all roads lead to Manhattan. New York City’s most famous borough (and historical birthplace) entices people from all over the world. Roads of creative inspiration lead artists and designers of every conceivable form into the concrete beehive. Avenues of global change are carved out at the United Nations Headquarters. Boulevards of possibility open every morning at 9am when the bulls of Wall Street emerge.
This is also the city that gave birth to M.C.L, so for me it has a special kind of power that can’t be compared with anywhere else. What I love about Manhattan is that so many luminaries, dreamers, influencers, wannabes and stars would say exactly the same thing if you asked them why the loved the city. It is the kind of place that invites you to take ownership of it. A place that is much more welcoming than people give it credit for.
What so many people don’t realize about New York is how many quiet spaces there are; the city offers so many moments of solitude and reflection. Or how many pockets of luscious green you stumble across while wandering the streets, and the rows of patch-worked buildings sewn together by history. Or the sky. How I love the Manhattan sky, the way nature’s painterly hues contrast against the abstract shadows of the rooftops.
This collection is an ode to the city, but also to the people and places that make it so special. Every time I visit this miraculous city that I once called home, I think about the generations of New Yorkers that have passed before me. I wonder, as they stood in this same spots that I stumble upon, or those places I visit time and again, did they see what I see?
